I recently had a conversation with my tenants. I was reminiscing that one of my needs was for the condo to have a washer/dryer in so I could do laundry at my leisure.
If you own a condo unit in a building where there’s a community laundry room/one common area for laundry on each floor and always wanted to add a washer/dryer to your unit, now might be the time to approach your condominium board and to change the bylaws, giving owners the option to a one to their units, using social distancing as a reason for this essential home improvement.
To be equitable, unit owners would have to tell the condo board, property management of their decisions to add one, so it could be recorded and their condo fees would be adjusted accordingly (extra water use if that is included in the condo fee and extra electricity–if that is in the condo fee), so unit owners who choose not to add a washer/dryer aren’t paying a higher utility fee for something that they aren’t deriving a benefit from.
Another option would be condo boards responding to Covid-19 by requiring owners to add washer/dryers to their units, giving owners the option of it being a stacked unit/two-in-one unit and where they want to place it.
Professionally speaking, I think adding a washer/dryer increases a condo unit’s resale value,
Taking an action that simultaneously promotes safety and increases property values seems awesome to me.
If a condo building is able to implement this change, then they should contact a few companies about getting a volume discount for giving them the exclusive for adding laundry to the condo units.
